Remote Central Reviews Sony RM-VL610 Remote

August 11, 2009

Sony RM-VL610Remote Central has just posted their extremely thorough review of the Sony RM-VL610 Universal Remote Control and they "recommend" it for a budget controller perfect for DVR users - or anyone that just loves having a ton of buttons! Their conclusion:

Obviously the perfect universal remote control doesn’t exist, and despite all its strengths the Sony RM-VL610 isn’t going to be the first. There really are a lot of tiny, identically shaped buttons, it lacks backlighting, has a small database, and has an unusual physical design that may leave some users scratching their heads on just how to put it down. But let’s not forget everything that it does right: with 8 devices and 50 ideal buttons it can control even complex A/V systems, it has enough memory to allow for complete customization, there are plenty of macros, it’s surprisingly well built... and did I mention that there are a whole lot of buttons to play with?

Best of all, with a price tag of just $29.99 and even less online, it’s one of the best values around. Recommended.

December 16, 2008

Niles iC2The Niles Intellicontrol iC2 is a large format, hard button controller designed for two-hand operation. Personally, I think the iC2 is the perfect solution for customers who want the features and benefits of the latest and greatest technology without the high-tech, and sometime intimidating graphic user interfaces of touchscreen devices. The iC2 has no touchscreen, no frills, yet it communicates via the hot new Zigbee protocol for reliable RF communication.

About.com Reader Reviews Weemote from Fobis Technologies

July 23, 2008

Fobis WeemoteIf you have small children in your house than you may be interested in the Fobis Technology Weemote Wireless Remote Control.
This little universal remote lets me give some control to the kids and lets me keep my high-end controller safe from harm. I programmed the weemote with 10 channels for the kids and everything else is automatically blocked. We have the weemote dv too so the kids can operate the dvd player. It just makes it all so easy for everyone. And the best of all, the batteries can't ever fall out..Yeah!

RemoteCentral Reviews Elite Screens’ ZR800D Remote Control

July 08, 2008

Elite Screens ZR800DRemote Central takes a look at the new Elite Screens' ZR800D Remote Control - the first universal remote from the respected projection screen manufacturer. The ZR800D is an 8 device universal remote with the standard features including a pre-programmed IR database, IR learning, Macro functions and more. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it adds much to the mid-range remote control market. Remote Central has this to say:

Elite Screens may have mixed together the right ingredients for their first universal remote, but they have not done so in the correct proportions. Add in a bigger and more versatile preprogrammed code database, enough learning memory for every key, a macro system that isn’t an afterthought, button labels that reflect the devices currently in America’s living rooms, full keypad backlighting, stronger infrared performance – not to mention supplementary features that not only make sense but also work – and the finished result could well be worth the asking price.

As it is, the ZR800D may be fine as a value-added accessory to one of Elite Screens’ core products, where the owner may choose to utilize it or tuck it away in a drawer, but as a serious contender in the mid-range universal remote control market it leaves one wanting more.
