NEW PRONTOTUNES APPLICATION ALLOWS TWO-WAY APPLE iTUNES AND APPLE TV INTEGRATION WITH PHILIPS PRONTO CONTROL PANELS
August 24, 2010
Integrators are now able to offer full two-way control over Apple digital media seamlessly via a Pronto control panel.

Philips Pronto, the value leader in two-way control solutions for the home, has joined forces with Australian developer ProntoProject.com to develop ProntoTunes, which provides two-way control over Apple iTunes, Apple TV and Apple AirPort Express via a Philips Pronto control panel. The new application offers integrators a visually stunning, feature rich control application for Pronto control panels.
ProntoTunes’ two-way interface application allows integrators a solution to seamlessly control Apple iTunes, Apple TV and Apple Airport Express digital media via Pronto control panels from anywhere in the home. To access and play digital media, users simply scroll through their library and play any of the available albums, artists, genres, playlists, movies, TV shows and more using the Pronto scroll wheel. The ProntoTunes application automatically discovers new media and instantly integrates it into the users’ media list. Cover art is displayed for the current playing file, whether it be music, movies or TV, and its SmartCache functionality stores large data, such as cover art, so users will not have to wait for it the next time they return to that selection. The robust integration of ProntoTunes supports a multitude of functions that portrays the familiar feel of an iPod, making it an easy transition for end users who are used to their iTunes control.

skatter tech reviews New Kinetix Re iPhone Universal Remote Control
July 29, 2010
This review of the New Kinetix Re is a few weeks old now but we just came across it again and realized that we never posted it here. Skatter Tech takes an in-depth look at the New Kinetix Re and has lots of great images and explanation of the set-up procedure for the device. Definitely worth the read...The Rē works exactly as advertised: it’s straightforward, organized, robust, and useful. The feature set puts the remote on par with similar touchscreen universal remotes and pushes the envelope with the iPod Touch and iPhone’s large, responsive touchscreen, thorough updates, and an effortless yet highly customizable setup. The $70 (US) price tag is frequently cited as a deal-breaker and understandably so; all that’s included in the package is a small, unexciting plastic box with a neoprene case. But when comparable products can cost hundreds more and still fall short in quality, it becomes clear that the NewKinetix Rē iPhone & iPod Touch Universal Remote Control is well worth the money.

TUAW Hands-on: POWER A turns your iPhone into a universal remote
July 28, 2010
The Unofficial Apple Weblog got their hands on the POWER A Universal Remote Control Case for the Apple iPhone 3G and 3GS and liked it so much that they're keeping it.Overall, the POWER A remote has been very impressive, and is well-suited to my needs. I imagine that it would fare quite well even in a more advanced setup than my cobbled-together home entertainment system. The POWER A hardware is available at the Apple Store, as well as online at the POWER A website. It retails for $59.99US, which I find to be very reasonable in the realm of universal remotes (at least among the ones that are actually useful). The accompanying software is a free download from the App Store, and the new version has been submitted and is just subject to the whims of the App Store approval process now. It's been fun to test this one out, and I'm thinking I'll be purchasing the test unit rather than returning it ... we've become rather fond of each other.
