PC World posted a look at a new patent application from Sony for a Universal Game Controller. This device would include a touchscreen that would change depending on the game console you want to control and would be compatible with all consoles - old and new. This is an incredible concept and now that gaming systems like the XBOX 360 and Sony's own Playstation 3 are becoming more important in an entertainment system as game systems, music servers, and HTPCs all rolled in one there may be quite the demand for a universal device like this.

Blu-Link comes pre-programmed to support numerous models of TVs, VCRs, DVDs, DVRs, surround sound systems, cable, satellite and set top boxes. Schmartz announced a new control solution for the Sony Playstation 3 priced right in the middle of the current product line - between the PS3IRX1 USB solution and the PS3IR-1000 professional Bluetooth converter. The new PS3IR-500 will be shipping this June and will become the most affordable IR to Bluetooth solution available.
Remote Central is at the tail-end of a week long series of articles reviewing the various IR to Bluetooth control solutions currently available that allow you to use your universal remote control with the Sony PlayStation 3. They kicked off the series last Sunday with a full review of the Audio Authority BlueBeam and followed it up with a new review each day on the IR2BTci, IR4PS3 v.3, Logitech Harmony Adapter for PS3 and the ps3toothfairy ELITE. Another technology blog got their hands on the Logitech Harmony PS3 Adapter. I4U News reviewed the new device with their Logitech Harmony ONE remote and gave it a 9.5 out of 10 ranking and the I4U Editor's Choice award. This is a nice review that details the set-up procedure of the Harmony adapter but does not go into comparison to other devices on the market. For example, the author raises a concern with the need for a separate AC outlet when there are other products already available that offer more flexible power options.

These are the current IR to Bluetooth converters currently available and while the size comparison is interesting the feature that all of these units have in common is that they do not have to be seen at all - especially if you are using an RF remote or IR extender system. Since these units all convert the signal from your remote control to a Bluetooth command for your Sony PlayStation 3 they may rest anywhere within 15'- 30' of the PS3 and still work seamlessly
