Crestron today announced the release of the new Crestron TPS-6 6-inch tilt touchpanel, a wired version of the multiple award-winning TPS-6X wireless touchpanel introduced by Crestron in 2008. The TPS-6 features high-speed Ethernet connectivity, enabling full motion video display in a scalable or full-size window, so you can monitor a security camera or preview a DVD or television channel right on the touchscreen. The TPS-6 has the same sleek, contoured and lightweight tabletop form factor and all of the features of a docked TPS-6X or newly released TPS-6XNL.
“The TPS-6X was the most successful touchpanel launch in Crestron history, and got rave reviews for its unique, elegant design, extreme speed and graphics capabilities. The ThinkFlood RedEye system is a bit different from what you might expect with an iPhone Universal Remote setup. Instead of being a dongle that attaches to the bottoom of your iDevice, ThinkFlood decided to use your WiFi network to relay the commands innitiated by your iPhone to their IR dock, and then to your TV. This may be unnecessarily complicated, but thankfully, after setup, it works great. And depending on how your room is setup, it may actually be better than the dongle method, as once you pick a spot for this thing, you won’t have to worry about IR signal reception since it will never move.

The remote definitely works as advertised. It works perfectly with my TV, receiver, cable box, and AppleTV. At $400, it is expensive. If you do not need the RF capability, I would suggest Logitech’s Harmony One as a comparable universal remote that can be found on the Net for under $200. But if you have a solid faced cabinet and do not like to have the cabinet doors open when using your system, the Harmony 900 is a great answer to eliminate remote clutter and bring greater Tech-Zen into your World.

When we first read the announcement, a whispered “wow” came to our lips and we started digging for as much information we could find on this interesting new remote. Since then, the folks at Glide TV sent us our very own review unit to take a first-hand look at the Navigator.
